Zoning By-law Changes
The City is in the early stages of proposing significant updates to the City’s Zoning By-law. The main goal of these changes is to increase the pace at which our City builds housing.

FAQs: Water Rate Structure Review
As many residents may have heard, the City is reviewing the water, wastewater, and stormwater rate structures applied to residents and businesses. Though many of the changes being investigated by the City are focused on urban Ottawa, the City is investigating changes that will also impact rural residents, particularly with respect to stormwater rates.
Thank you to everyone who attended the Ward 21 Rural Summit workshop. There was a lot of valuable feedback from the over 130 residents that attended. The City heard people loud and clear on many key issues.
I will keep this momentum going leading up to the Rural Summit this November.

Ward Updates
Potholes
Potholes are formed when water (from rain or melted snow and ice) seeps into small cracks or holes in the road. As temperatures drop, the water under the road freezes and expands pushing up on the road above, creating larger cracks – when the temperature rises above zero, the water evaporates and leaves an open space under the road. The weight of cars and trucks travelling over these weak spots breaks the asphalt, resulting in potholes.
Since January, pothole crews have been working on temporary repairs – over 500 crews have been assigned and filled over 28,500 potholes.
Potholes are filled by cleaning the hole of debris and water, then packing it with asphalt and rolling or pounding it down. At this time of year, with significant amounts of rain, some potholes in high-traffic areas may need to be refilled more than once. This happens because water works its way back into the hole preventing the asphalt from forming an adhesive bond with the pavement.
For residents wishing to report a pothole, a service request can be created online.
Mobile phone Texting Scam
There have been recent scam text messages seeking payment for alleged speeding infractions under the City’s Automated Speed Enforcement program.
Under the legitimate Speed Enforcement Program, tickets are mailed to the registered plate owner of the vehicle.
The City does not solicit payments via text messages.
If you have received this scam text and provided any personal information, please contact the Ottawa Police Service immediately at 613-236-1222.
Spring Tree Planting Season
This week marks the beginning of the City's spring tree planting season. Spring is a very busy season for the Forestry Services staff as they also begin spring stumping operations and continue to update the tree inventory. In addition to these seasonal operations, regular tree maintenance such tree pruning, and tree inspections are still ongoing.

Construction Updates
(May 02) Notice of Road Resurfacing & Construction Noise
Below are a list of roads that will be resurfaced with respective timelines for the completion of the work. There will be some nighttime construction noise associated with this work from May to mid-September from the hours of 10:00pm to 7:00am.
Further updates will be provided as necessary about these projects and other planned road work for the year.

Cockburn Street from Strachan Street to Christopher Hamilton Street (May to July)
Colonel Murray Street from Strachan Street to Perth Street (May to July)
