Ottawa's Roadmap to Resurfacing
Curious why some roads get resurfaced while others wait? Ottawa follows a high-tech, five-step process to prioritize road renewal—balancing condition, traffic, and coordination with other city projects. I'm committed to making sure rural roads and traffic safety remain top priorities.

Ward Updates
🚨Upcoming Installation of Municipal Speed Camera Signage
“Municipal Speed Camera Coming Soon” signs have been installed in two key locations:
Manotick Main Street, between Bankfield Road and Highcroft Drive
Perth Street, between Cockburn Street and King Street North
These signs are required under provincial regulations and must be in place at least 90 days before automated speed enforcement can begin.
This is part of an ongoing effort to enhance road safety in our communities, especially in high-traffic and pedestrian-heavy areas. Following connection work by Hydro Ottawa, we anticipate the final installation and activation of these speed cameras by the Fall.
🗑️Reporting Illegal Dumping and Reducing Waste in Our Community
Illegal dumping is more than just unsightly—it’s illegal and disrespectful to our shared public spaces. If you witness illegal dumping, the best way to address it is to report it immediately to 3-1-1. If it’s safe to do so, snapping a photo of the vehicle’s license plate can help By-law Services identify and prosecute those responsible.
We can all do our part to keep our ditches, roadsides, and public bins clean—dumping unwanted items in these spaces is never acceptable.
♻️ Reuse, Repair, and Reduce
Many items we throw away still have value. In honour of World Environment Day, it's a great time to reflect on how we can reduce waste and embrace reuse in our daily lives.
The City of Ottawa is currently developing a Waste Reduction and Reuse Action Plan as part of the Solid Waste Master Plan. A public survey is open until July 7—take a moment to share your ideas on how to better support reuse, repair, and sharing in our communities:

🎉June is Seniors Month – Help Shape the Future for Older Adults in Ottawa
June is Seniors Month in Ontario—a time to honour the invaluable contributions older adults make in our families, neighbourhoods, and communities. As Ottawa’s population continues to grow and age, the City is working to ensure that programs and services evolve to meet the diverse and changing needs of seniors.
Did you know that residents aged 65 and older now make up 17% of Ottawa’s population, surpassing the number of children under 15? By 2030, one in five Ottawa residents will be a senior. This growing population is also becoming more diverse, with a wide range of experiences, cultures, and challenges shaping how people age in our city.
Since 2012, the City has been guided by its Older Adult Plan, designed to improve access to City programs, services, and infrastructure for older residents. After a decade of implementation and a recent in-depth evaluation, a new Older Adult Plan (2025–2030) is now in the works.
📊 What We've Learned
The City consulted over 1,300 residents and community organizations to better understand the current landscape for older adults. You can explore the key takeaways and insights gathered during this consultation:

🤝 Looking Ahead
The updated plan will be co-developed with community partners and brought to City Council in 2025. It will help shape a more inclusive, age-friendly city where older adults can thrive.

🚗Digital Mapping Tool Will Improve Traffic Safety and Infrastructure Planning
This summer, you might notice a uniquely equipped City SUV on the roads—complete with a rooftop camera system. It’s part of the Mobile Mapping of Traffic Infrastructure Project, a cutting-edge initiative using 360° cameras and LiDAR sensors to build a digital inventory of Ottawa’s traffic infrastructure.
Think of it as Google Street View—but for the infrastructure that keeps us safe. This mobile mapping vehicle will collect detailed data on:
Street signs
Traffic signals
Pavement markings
Streetlights
Pedestrian crossovers
And more
By capturing up-to-date, high-quality data, the City can better track, plan, and maintain critical traffic assets—leading to safer streets and smarter investments in our infrastructure.
🌐 Feeding Into Ottawa’s Digital Twin
The data collected will also support Ottawa’s Digital Twin—a 3D model of the city that helps urban planners, architects, and emergency services make better, faster decisions. It’s a powerful tool that bridges digital innovation with real-world improvements.
🔒 Your Privacy Matters
The City is committed to protecting your privacy. Any faces or license plates captured in the process will be automatically blurred before any images are stored or used.

🌳Forestry Spring Update: Tree Replacements and Planting Season
Spring is in full swing, and so is the City’s effort to grow and protect Ottawa’s urban forest!
🌱 New Proactive Tree Replacement Program
This year, Forestry Services has launched a new proactive street tree replacement program. In the past, residents had to request a new tree after one was removed—but now, City staff will automatically assess the site and leave a notice if replanting is scheduled. Selected trees will enhance biodiversity in your neighbourhood, and a temporary sign will mark the location of the new planting.
🌼 Spring Planting Season Underway
The spring tree planting program is ongoing until mid-June, weather permitting. Trees are being planted:
In local parks
At City facilities
Along streets
Through schoolyard and lifecycle planting programs
These efforts support a healthier canopy, cooler streets, and stronger communities.
🙌 How You Can Help
Please don’t move utility locate flags—they’re critical for safe and accurate planting.
Heading to the cottage or a campground? Always buy and burn firewood locally to prevent the spread of invasive pests and diseases that threaten our trees.

Out & About
On May 30, I was delighted to attend the Marlborough Community Recreation Association’s annual fundraiser, which featured a heartfelt and entertaining performance of Romance on the Road by the talented North Grenville Community Theatre.
It was a wonderful evening filled with storytelling, music, and community spirit—a true celebration of local arts and the connections that bring us together. Thank you to all the organizers, performers, and attendees who made the night so special.
On May 31, I had the pleasure of joining the Munster Community Association for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the official re-opening of Munster Park.
It was great to see families and neighbours come together to mark this exciting moment. The renewed park space is a wonderful addition to the community—offering a refreshed place to play and connect. Thank you to everyone who made this project a reality.

From the Friday night parade and basketball tip-off, to chatting with residents at the Craft Fair—and yes, even getting dunked by the spirited team from ROSSS—Dickinson Days in Manotick was an absolute blast!
A huge thank you to the Kiwanis Club of Manotick and all the incredible volunteers who made this fun-filled weekend possible. Your dedication to community spirit truly shines through every year!
On June 8th, I had the great honour of attending the 100th birthday celebration for Ethel Pottery at the Manotick Legion—on her actual birthday! It was a true privilege to help mark this remarkable milestone with Ethel, a proud WWII veteran whose life and service continue to inspire everyone around her.
Mayor Sutcliffe also joined the celebration, making the day even more memorable.
A heartfelt thank you to the Manotick Legion and Ethel’s family for organizing such a meaningful and touching event.
Happy 100th, Ethel—and thank you for your service!

Construction Update: Watermain Installation on Perth Street (Richmond)
I’m writing to inform residents that watermain installation work will be taking place across Perth Street (southwest of the roundabout) during the week of June 16th. To accommodate this work, flagging operations and daytime lane reductions will be required. Please note that all lanes will reopen in the evening, and the road surface will be temporarily reinstated with granular material at the end of each workday.
Temporary asphalt paving is scheduled for the week of June 23rd, with final asphalt reinstatement planned for later in July or August.
