Emergency & Crisis Lines‍ ‍

  • Call 9-1-1 for a crime in progress or life-threatening situation, including fires.

  • Call 9-8-8 for the Suicide Crisis Helpline. If you or someone you know is thinking about suicide, call or text 9-8-8. Help is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

  • Call 8-1-1 to connect with a registered nurse for free, secure, and confidential health advice.

  • Call 613-236-1222 for the non-emergency / general police line.

Community Support & Resources‍ ‍

  • Call 2-1-1 to connect to community programs and resources across Eastern Ontario such as newcomer and immigrant services, housing, food banks, senior services, disability supports, and more. Helpline service is available in over 150 languages. Service is free and confidential.

City & Local Services‍ ‍

  • Call 3-1-1 or place an online request at ottawa.ca/3-1-1. The call center is staffed 24/7 to report a pothole, broken streetlight, missed garbage pick-up, vandalism, animal control, or any other City concern.

  • Garbage & Green Bin Collection: The City of Ottawa remains fully responsible for collecting and managing regular household garbage and green bin organic waste. For collection schedules, replacement bins, or to report a missed pickup, call 3-1-1 or visit ottawa.ca.

  • Blue & Black Bin Recycling: Under regulations from the Government of Ontario, the responsibility for collecting and processing recycling across Ontario has transferred to Circular Materials. Their contractor, Miller Waste, now collects your blue and black bins. The City of Ottawa is no longer responsible for blue and black bin collection. For recycling questions, contact Miller Waste at 1-888-852-2374 or area2@millerwaste.ca.

  • Zoning & Home Renovation Permits: Development Information Officers can help with zoning questions or permits for home renovations, driveway landscaping, etc. Get in touch with them at 613-580-2424 ext. 23434 or dioinquiry@ottawa.ca.

Ottawa Public Health‍ ‍

  • General Programs & Services: Visit the OPH website at ottawapublichealth.ca to learn about available programs and services for residents, healthcare providers, community partners, and other organizations. Information includes mental health support, COVID-19 vaccines, food safety, insect and animal bites, water quality, and more.

  • Well Water Testing: Call 613-580-6744 ext. 26325 for well water testing kits and septic system information.

Rural, Agricultural & Environmental Services‍ ‍

  • Rural Road Maintenance: For concerns including snow clearing, grading, and drainage issues on private roads or unassumed subdivisions, contact your developer or homeowners' association first. For City-maintained rural roads, call 3-1-1.

  • Rural Road Watch (OPP): Report aggressive or dangerous driving on rural roads to the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

  • Private Septic System Maintenance: Contact a licensed hauler. Systems typically need pumping every 3-5 years.

  • Ontario One Call: Call 1-800-400-2255 or visit ontario1call.ca before digging to locate underground utilities (free service required by law).

  • Rideau Valley Conservation Authority: Call 613-692-3571 or email info@rvca.ca for watershed management, flood forecasting, septic system approvals, and natural hazard information.

  • Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness (OMAFRA): Contact the Agricultural Information Contact Centre at 1-877-424-1300 or ag.info.omafra@ontario.ca for farming programs, grants, and technical advice.

  • Eastern Ontario Regional Network (EORN): For rural internet connectivity issues, visit eorn.ca or call 1-855-875-9922.
