Waste Collection Changes Begin March 30
Spring is just around the corner, and with it comes an important change to curbside waste collection across Ottawa. Starting March 30, 2026, the City’s new collection contract takes effect, and I want to make sure Ward 21 residents know what is changing, what is staying the same, and what to expect in the weeks ahead.
For most curbside homes in Ward 21, collection will now take place on Friday. A small number of homes that had previously been on a Thursday schedule will move to Friday, meaning nearly all curbside homes in our ward will now be collected on the same day. Residents in areas around Mansfield Road, Fallowfield Road, Flewellyn Road, and Fernbank Road who are currently on a Thursday schedule will now switch to Friday collection.
This change will affect homes in/on:
Ashton Village (McCaffrey Trail, Flewellyn Road, Ashton Station Road, Worley Street, and Ormrod Road)
Ridgewood Estates (Weststar Farm Way, Fiddler’s Green Terrace, Gaelic Glen Ridge, Huntingford Street, and Dewmont Street)
Canadian Golf & Country Club Estates
Healey’s Heath
Kolo Drive
Lucas Lane
Hubertine Gate
Kimini Drive
Ironstone Court
Ridingview Crescent
Brad’s Court
Forestgrove Drive
Poplarwood Avenue

What is not changing is just as important. Garbage, green bin, leaf and yard waste, and recycling will continue to be collected on the same day. Garbage will still be collected every second week, while green bin and leaf and yard waste will continue to be picked up weekly. Recycling will also remain weekly, alternating between container and paper collection under the new provincially mandated system. Residents can confirm their updated schedule online through the City’s Collection Calendar or by using the Ottawa Collection Calendar app, where you can also sign up for reminders by email, text message, or phone call.
One important change to keep in mind this spring involves leaf and yard waste. Beginning March 30, it must be set out separately from your green bin in brown paper bags or in a reusable container labelled “Leaf and Yard Waste.” Plastic bags will not be accepted, and pet waste bags must not be placed in the same container. Branches and brush can still be put out in properly tied bundles. During the busy spring and fall yard waste season, crews have until 8 pm to complete collection routes, so please leave materials at the curb until then.
As the City transitions to the new schedule, some households may temporarily experience two consecutive weeks of the same waste stream being collected. To help offset that disruption, the normal three-item garbage limit is being temporarily increased. From March 30 to April 24, all households may set out up to six garbage items on their scheduled garbage day.
Residents should also be aware that there will be no curbside collection on Good Friday, April 3, or Easter Monday, April 6. Collection will be delayed by one day for the rest of each week. Since most Ward 21 homes will now be on a Friday schedule, most residents should expect pickup on Saturday, April 4, during the first week of the new contract.
For recycling questions, missed recycling collection, or to request a replacement recycling bin, residents should contact Miller Waste directly at 1 (888) 852-2374 or area2@millerwaste.ca. Existing recycling bins can still be used, so there is no need to request a replacement unless your bin is damaged. For City collection schedule questions, residents can call 3-1-1, and as always, you can also contact my office at ward21@ottawa.ca.
