Ottawa Rural Clean Water Program


The Ottawa Rural Clean Water Program (ORCWP) provides technical advice and financial assistance to help landowners protect surface water and groundwater quality.

Grants and Funding

Landowners in 2026 may be eligible for grants of up to $15,000 depending on the project. Eligible costs generally include materials, supplies, permits, and professional fees, as well as reasonable in-kind labor and equipment contributions.

Eligible Projects

Grants are available for over 18 types of initiatives across five main categories:

  • Nutrient Management: Manure storage, washwater treatment, and precision farming technology.

  • Soil Protection: Erosion control, cover crops, and new grants for living snow fences.

  • Water Management: Well decommissioning, septic system repairs, and clean water diversion.

  • Land Stewardship: Wetland restoration, natural windbreaks, and forest/wetland management plans.

  • Education: Funding for non-profit organizations to lead innovative projects or educational initiatives.

Who Can Apply?

  • Rural Ottawa Landowners: Any property located within rural Ottawa.

  • Urban Landowners: Agricultural properties or those with well decommissioning projects within the urban boundary.

    Non-Profits: Eligible for educational and demonstration projects.

Key Requirements

To qualify for funding, applicants must apply prior to starting work and obtain all necessary permits. Additionally, farm projects require a $4^{th}$ or $5^{th}$ Edition Environmental Farm Plan, while non-farm projects require a Healthy Home Guidebook.
