Giveaway Weekend


The City is bringing back Giveaway Weekend on Saturday, October 3 and Sunday, October 4, 2026. On these days, residents can place unwanted but usable household goods at the curb for others to take for free.   

Declutter your home while giving items that are in good condition a second life and helping neighbours find hidden treasures they may love.  

Items could include:  

  • Books, CDs, and DVDs

  • Children’s toys and clothing

  • Furniture and small appliances (in working condition)

  • Construction tools (in working condition)

  • Kitchen gadgets, dishes, cutlery, pots, and pans

  • Unwanted gifts

  • Musical instruments

  • Sporting equipment

  • Bicycles

  • Yard and garden equipment

  • Plants and potted trees

  • Other durable household goods  

Items to exclude:   

The following items should not be given away:  

  • Car or booster seats

  • Baby gates and walkers

  • Cribs or cradles

  • Bike helmets

  • Bedding or mattresses

  • Food items  

For safety reasons, please only place safe, reusable items at the curb. Do not set out garbage, hazardous waste, or broken goods.  

Set out etiquette  

  • Place items at the curb

  • Please do not place items on the sidewalk, in the right of way or in a parking lot

  • Clearly label items with a “FREE” sign or sticker or use our multi-lingual “FREE” poster [3MB](opens in new tab)

  • Bring in any items you do not want taken away from the curb

  • At the end of your day, bring any uncollected items back inside  

Items that are not taken can be donated to charitable organizations, shared through your local Buy Nothing Facebook group, or posted on other free exchange websites.

Pick up etiquette  

  • Do not block driveways, right of ways or parking lots

  • Watch for pets and children

  • Respect private property - do not walk on lawns or gardens

  • Only take items that are clearly marked “FREE” at the curb

  • Do not leave unwanted items on someone else’s property
