Lower Ottawa Valley Chapter: Chainsaw Safety and Maintenance

The Lower Ottawa Valley Chapter is hosting a practical workshop to help residents learn how to safely use and maintain their chainsaws. This community event is perfect for those looking to improve their skills for yard work and forest management. Please note that this is a hands-on session where you will be working with your own equipment.

Session 1: Safety & Maintenance

  • Date: May 2, 2026

  • Time: 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM

  • Notes: This indoor session is a prerequisite for courses 2 and 3. Topics include chainsaw safety, PPE, equipment familiarization, and sharpening.

Session 2: Operations – Bucking & Limbing

  • Date: May 2, 2026

  • Time: 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM

  • Notes: Includes 50% indoor instruction and 50% hands-on experience. Topics include kickback awareness, forces acting on trees, and cutting firewood lengths.
