Step back in time and discover the tradition of wood carving in the historic Old Town Hall at the Goulbourn Museum. Join Ottawa City Woodshop for a hands-on afternoon of heritage craft as you learn the traditional skills of spoon carving and create your own functional wooden spoon to take home.

This beginner-friendly workshop will introduce you to the fundamentals of green woodworking, including understanding wood and reading the grain, selecting and using traditional carving tools, hollowing the bowl, shaping the handle, and finishing your spoon. Guided step by step by an experienced instructor, you will have the opportunity to work with local hardwoods while learning a craft that has been practiced for generations.

No previous woodworking or carving experience is required. All tools and materials are supplied, and participants will have a selection of local hardwoods to choose from for their spoon.

Join us on Sunday, October 4th, from 12pm to 4pm for a relaxing afternoon of traditional craftsmanship in one of Stittsville’s historic buildings. The cost is $110 per participant and includes all materials, tools, and light refreshments. This workshop is designed for participants ages 16 and up.
