The Goulbourn Township Historical Society is hosting an informative presentation exploring the Fenian Raids and the local soldiers who stood on guard to protect Canadian territory. The Fenian Brotherhood was a group of Irish nationalists based largely in the United States who launched incursions into Canada in 1866 and 1870 to 1871. Presenters Mark Heckman, Trudy Garland, Don MacDougall, and Brenda Mills will share their knowledge, with Trudy, Don, and Brenda recounting the personal stories of their own ancestors who served in the local militia. Attendees will also have the opportunity to view family artifacts and heirlooms from that service. Refreshments and parking are free, and everyone is welcome to attend.
